You can take TCF Canada inside Canada at Alliance Française centres and some universities. In the big centres we checked, the price is CAD 390 to 400, and most of them take bookings online. Below is a city-by-city comparison with the rules that can cost you money.

Ottawa also has an Alliance Française. We could not check its page, so ask it directly for the price and rules. For other cities, check the official centre list on the France Éducation international website. Dates and booking are always on the centre's page.

Rules to compare before you pay

Centres say a result is valid for 2 years. For Express Entry, IRCC asks that your result be less than 2 years old when you complete your profile and when you submit your permanent residence application, so plan your test date with that in mind.

How to choose a centre

  1. Start with the nearest city. A centre in your own city saves travel and a hotel night.
  2. Look at the next open session. Small centres fill up. Edmonton showed a sold-out session when we checked.
  3. Compare the change rules. If your plans may move, a centre with a cheaper change fee helps.
  4. Keep documents ready. Calgary asks for two valid photo IDs. Vancouver says to keep your passport number at hand. Check your centre's list.
