How the mock exam works
- You get one topic for each task, picked from our bank so you don't repeat the same ones. Or pick one of this month's topic sets.
- The timer runs for 60 minutes in total, like the real TCF Canada. If you close the page, your texts stay saved in this browser and the timer keeps going.
- When you finish or time runs out, each task is graded on the 4 official criteria. Your global score is the average of the 3 tasks, converted to NCLC with the IRCC table.

Questions
How is the global score calculated?
Each task is graded out of 20 on task completion, coherence, vocabulary and grammar. The global score is the average of the 3 tasks. On the real test examiners give one score for the whole writing section, so treat ours as a close estimate.
Can I pause the timer?
No. Like on the real test, the timer keeps running. Your texts are saved in your browser, so a closed tab or a lost connection doesn't erase them.
Can I take it on my phone?
Yes, but the real TCF Canada is taken on a computer. If you can, practice on a computer with a keyboard: typing French accents fast is part of the challenge.
What if I write fewer words than required?
The task completion score goes down, like on the real test. A task with fewer than 20 words gets 0.
Are these the real exam topics?
No. Real TCF Canada topics are confidential. Every month we write new topics in the same format and at the same level as the exam, on everyday themes, so you train the skill itself.
